MINUTES OF THE MIDLAND WALKABOUT CLUB MEETING
September 21, 2008, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, ROOM 201, 5:00 P.M.
PRESENT: Alex Rose, Willard Raiffeisen, Jack Rogers, Walt & Linda McConathy, Pat Hunter, Charlene & Marvis Hendrix, Sam & Uta Sanchez, Larry Carpenter, Patsy Stiles, Anne Severson, Ruth Orson and Criss Kohl.
Alex opened the meeting on time. The August minutes were read by Alex and corrections were made. The amended minutes were approved.
Willard gave the Treasurer’s report. Balance in our account is $1,840.70. There were 34 YRE walkers for the month of August; 137 YRE walkers year to date.
Members of the club can still drop cans off at Jack Rogers’s garage. A reminder - we will have a KMB clean up day at Windlands Park on October 4th at 8:00 a.m.
Linda McConathy reported that she has checks from eleven people for the November 1 McKittrick Canyon trip. She has sent forms to several others who requested the information.
Patsy Stiles reported that she, Jack, Sam and Uta have put together a new Monahans YRE. Patsy passed around two sets of directions and requested members to vote on the directions they thought would be easiest for walkers to understand. Patsy will e-mail the necessary information to Heinz Johnson.
Pat Hunter will send all the flyers for our 2009 YREs including the new Monahans YRE to Heinz Johnson.
Linda McConathy should be contacted if you want a name badge. They are $10.
A first aid kit has been purchased for $30. The kit will be carried to our out-of-town walks.
Alex asked who in the club was interested in a trip to Tyler. Thanks to Sue Miller for all her work on this trip. Anne will continue to check on information for the March Tyler trip.
Alex and Willard will be conducting a Volkssporting class at Midland College’s College Classics on Fridays, October 24 to November 14 from 10:00 to 12:00. There will be one hour in classroom and one hour of walking. Anyone interested in taking this class can sign up at Midland College.
For anyone who is going to Ruidoso, NM for the West Texas Trailwalkers Ruidoso, NM event will be provided with orange hunting vests to wear as it is elk season. Carpools were set up for those planning to go to Ruidoso.
A Nominating Committee consisting of Jack Rogers, Willard Raiffeisen, Alex Rose and Ruth Orson will meet to select officers for 2009.
The deadline for articles for the December/January issue of the American Wanderer is October 25, 2008.
Uta Sanchez requested photos and other items that she can put in the Scrapbook.
Willard passed around pictures and talked about the recent Walking Adventures, International trip he and Criss took to the Great Lakes.
